MACHINE SHOP
Robert (Bob) Placak, Tool Maker/Machinist
Biography of Robert Placak:
I was born in Cleveland, OH in 1953 and worked closely with my father in the photography industry from the age of 9-15 years of age. Then I began my first machine shop job during summers until I graduated. After graduation, I worked in the milling department for National Acme Company in Cleveland, OH. In 1973, I wanted a change, so I worked in private security as an armor and weapons instructor, personal body guard, and dog handler until 1975.
I returned to the machining field , working in several shops machining parts for the aero space, nuclear, medical, and military industries. I moved to North Carolina in January 1982 to help my parents out and found employment in several local machine shops including Beverage Air, Michelin Tire, Toledo Scale, and GE Turbine Division building tools, molds, stamping dies, and other varied projects.
I started at Gibbs Welding in 1992, as Tool Maker/Machinist and have had a hand in much of the welding process as well, building many interesting projects.
I feel that our shop is one-of-a-kind and does top quality work. Come in, look around, meet the crew, and let us work on your next project, whether it is a lawn mower or putting up the steel in a new building. We can cover it all!
Thanks,
Bob Placak
